The current occupant of the White House is an embarrassment. Even those with only a limited knowledge of the U.S. Constitution know that Trump has ignored that document. He doesn’t realize that there are three branches of our Government and the framers of that document included a system of checks and balances.
His policies are ridiculous. Using the office, or more accurately, abusing the office is corrupt. The next edition of all dictionaries should have Trump’s picture next to the word “corrupt.” Many of his antics were simply intended to line the pockets of himself and his allies. It is clear that he does not believe that the law applies to him. His activities are often unlawful or even unconstitutional. The language he uses, and the constant childish name-calling damages the prestige of the office. He’s like an elementary school bully, intimidating when possible and trying to belittle others rather than do anything that is productive.
His constant self-aggrandizement is sickening, literally. Many of the things he does or tries to do are ridiculous. I have not been a supporter of some of the Presidents over my 75 years and an opponent to some of their policies, but none were embarrassing. (Except some of President Clinton’s indiscretions involving an 18-year-old taking place in the Oval Office). By Trump’s statements and actions, he demeans the office. I am pretty sure that many are afraid to oppose him or openly criticize his corruption. One thing that can be said is that he is unique. There have been some who have occupied the Oval Office that were disappointments, but Trump is certainly the most embarrassing.
One of the worst things about the Trump years is that it will take some mature, thoughtful and honest persons to occupy the office of the Presidency once this blot on the country’s history is just a vague memory. Warren Harding and Ulysess Grant are generally considered among the worst Presidents. Trump makes them look good.
And the problem continues to get worse. Those who make up the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are Trump’s version of Hitlers S.A. known as the Brown Shirts. Who in this country would have thought that there was an agency of the United States Government would wear masks, carry automatic weapons and wear body armor. An agency whose actions include abusing innocent people, dragging people out of their homes or cars, beating them and taking them into custody without anything resembling due process. And Trump’s Vice-President claims that ICE personnel have “absolute immunity.” In other words, they cannot be prosecuted for causing injury or death. Of course, he’s wrong.
Trunp was rich when he was elected, but he has made more money by abusing that position than anyone in the office before him. And his corruption is apparent. The country of Vietnam paid $90 million in order to continue trade with the U.S. That money was not paid to the United States Government; it was paid to Donald Trump. You have to be blind to not recognize that Trump is the worst president in this country’s history. There have been some poor choices, but none approach the mistake of putting Donald Trump in the Oval Office.
His delusions of grandeur are shown by his effort to add his name to almost everything. He has demolished portions of the White House to replace those sections with new construction of his personal whims. I’m pretty sure that no president in the country’s history has made such an effort to plaster his name on pretty much everything. The only publicly owned property which should be named for Trump should be sewage plants and landfills. That would be more fitting.
He uses whatever power he claims to have to line his pockets or seek revenge on anyone who he thinks has wronged him in some way and his political adversaries. He has directed military strikes on foreign countries. He has threatened longtime allies such as Canada. He is making noises about Mexico and announced his intention to invade Greenland. He seems to believe that no other country will dare to try and stop his imperialism.
This year, 2026, there will be the mid-term elections. There is little doubt that those elections will give both the House of Representatives and the Senate to the Democratic Party. Even Trump, with his delusions and fantasizes sees that coming. His actions to date show the possibility of Trump seeking to stop those elections from taking place. Perhaps I should say probability. Recently he has raised the possibility of stopping those elections, claiming that elections cannot take place during war. It appears he will engage in some activities that he will label as war as an excuse to try and stall those elections. Even Trump has acknowledged that the mid-term elections will likely lead to his impeachment by the House and conviction by the Senate.
America will come out of this era of darkness. That cannot happen too soon.
